Before you book an uplift, why not donate your large household items you no longer need instead. If you items are still in good condition you can have them collected . Visit Recycle for Scotland website for an online form and more information on the scheme.
If your large household items are damaged or cannot be reused Waste Services operate an uplift service to help you dispose of them. We aim to pick up general household and white goods items within ten working days after receiving your payment. However this timescale is only a guide, which means it could take longer than this.
We charge £29.48 in advance for this service which can be arranged by calling the Contact Centre on 01389 738282, Monday - Thursday 9am - 4.30pm & Friday 9am - 3.30pm. This charge covers up to 10 items with an itemised list taken at the time of booking.
If you have over 10 items this will cost more.
· Place uplift items within the grounds of your property (e.g. a backcourt or garden) and ensure it does not obstruct bins or common pathways. Just leaving items on the street or in a back lane will be regarded as fly-tipping and the people responsible will be open to enforcement action.
· Please note that any textile items such as settees, mattresses, carpet must be kept dry for collection. If the items become waterlogged we may not be able to collect them.
· We are changing the way we collect and dispose of upholstered seating. This includes any seating items with cushions or padding, such as sofas, office chairs and futons.
· These items will be collected separately so you may notice items are removed at different stages of your uplift.
· If these items are broken up or dismantled where the foam/padding is exposed, then you will now need to wrap these items before we can remove them safely. This will need to be done before you request your uplift.
· Upholstered seating may have been coated with a flame retardant, containing Persistent Organic Pollutants - also referred to as POPs.
· POPs present a long-lasting risk to the environment and are found in a variety of products, including soft furnishings. The Scottish Environment Protection Agency requires upholstered seating to be segregated and disposed of appropriately.
You can take any bulky items to our Household Waste Recycling Centres free of charge.
